Congratulations to our 2023 winner, 4th Friday at the First Church!
Partners: Child Advocates of Placer County, Health Education Council, Placer People of Faith Together, First United Methodist Church Roseville, Latino Leadership Council
In the Winter of 2021 Child Advocates of Placer County, Roseville Health Education Council, Placer People of Faith Together, and the First United Methodist Church in Roseville worked in collaboration to create Health Fair events to provide family resources to low-income families in Roseville. This collaboration resulted in nearly 150 COVID vaccines to children, youth, and adults in Placer County. Due to the success of these events, the organizations continued to host monthly community health and resource gatherings to serve local families. Our goal was to create a safe community event for families to have fun and learn about resources in their neighborhood. We named the event the 4th Friday at the First Church.
Each monthly event offered resources, vaccines, a fun family theme, and food. We hosted events like Dia de los ninos y libros, Mother’s Day, back-to-school night, and movie night, and we celebrated Latino Heritage month. Each theme had corresponding activities and resources. For the Dia de los ninos y libros event in April, we had a reading nook where the kids were able to read to a service dog and take books home. The Latino Leadership Council joined our collaboration in the summer which strengthened our connection to the Latino community.
The Church is located in a predominantly Latino neighborhood, so a lot of our outreach is focused on their needs. We were able to educate about 120 families with immigration information and educated families on the Child Tax Credit in Spanish.
Based on their specific skillsets and strengths, each organization contributed to the events and helped with outreach, providing food, contacting other resource providers, supplying crafts for the kids, setting up, and cleaning up.
Together, we provided about 600 meals and about 300 vaccinations and offered a safe location where families could gather, share, and build a community of support.
